Customer story Weimper

Schwörer Healthy Home

Building history Weimper

“Light. Air. Life.” This is the motto of the first Schwörer Healthy Home. As project partners, over 40 brand-name manufacturers from the construction industry present how to build an ecological and healthy living home today. Under the auspices of SchwörerHaus, the first “Schwörer Healthy Home” was achieved in Mühlacker, on the site of building owners Christine and Norbert Weimper. The building trade journalist and construction blogger wanted to use his own house project to demonstrate everything that modern home building today has to offer. It was important to him here to build in a way that was energy-efficient, healthy for living, yet affordable.

The wooden prefabricated house is on a slight slope, on a prefabricated concrete basement accessed at ground level as a garden storey, with use as a living area. The first thing you notice is the reduced, modern design vocabulary, with no roof overhang, bay windows or dormers. A compact building structure benefits the energy efficiency – KfW efficiency house 55 as standard – whereby the ratio of heat-emitting envelope surface to heated volume plays a part. The clear building cubature provides a reference to the “original form of the house.”

Multifunctional roof and active energy management

Erstes Schwörer Healthy Home

One architectural highlight of the “Schwörer Healthy Home” is the innovative multifunctional roof with integrated skylights and flush-mounted photovoltaic system. The component dimensions were coordinated so that they can be combined.

The photovoltaic modules supply ecological, clean solar power for household appliances, lighting and the highly efficient, brine-operated air-water heat pump. Surplus electricity is fed to the battery storage, which optimises the energy flows and consumption with active energy management. It also takes into account the user behaviour and current weather data here. Surplus electricity is fed into the public grid in return for payment only once all electricity consumers in the house have been supplied with own electricity, the washing machine is switched on by remote controlled plug at the right time, the e-mobile in the garage charged and the solar power store full. The aim is to increase own power consumption in the building to up to 85 percent. Heat recycling is offered by the Schwörer fresh air system with the aid of an effective heat exchanger, which recovers over 80 percent of the thermal energy from the used ambient air and works with a cooling effect in summer. Together with the well thermally insulated, dense building envelope, this results in a pioneering efficiency house.

New living with loft upgrade

In modern construction areas, which will be developed more densely in the future owing to the shortage of building land, the loft is gaining importance as a useful area. The requirements for the loft are growing: good soundproofing, no overheating, plenty of light, beautiful views but no dubious inside views – open where possible, sheltered where necessary. In the “Schwörer Healthy Home” 21 energy-independent solar skylights bring plenty of daylight into all rooms and especially also to the large, multifunctional gallery. Electrochromic glazing on the south side ensures shade and is dimmed at the touch of a button, so that the indoor climate remains comfortable even in strong sunlight. The advantage: you can still see out. The skylights in the bedrooms are also fitted with motorised roller shutters, so that they can be completely obscured for healthy sleep. Additional comfort, energy efficiency and security are provided by integration into the TaHoma Smart Home system. As well as the skylights, this also controls all curtains on the ground floor on a time and sensor basis and allows individual comfort scenarios. External movement sensors, opening sensors on the windows and the video door intercom complete the Smart Home solution.

Façade as a light catcher and healthy living materials

Open architecture, a generous reception area and light colours support the comfortable atmosphere in the “Schwörer Healthy Home”, which is supplied primarily by the innovative daylight concept. The planning of the windows follows the motto “the inside shapes the outside”, whereby it is not the number of windows that matters but rather their intelligent positioning for optimal lighting of the rooms and attractive visual axes including to the outside.

Plenty of light, good soundproofing and fresh air: these are the key elements for a healthy living home. In the “Schwörer Healthy Home” regular air exchange even without manual window ventilation is ensured by controlled ventilation and extraction with pollen filters, so that even allergy sufferers can breathe freely at all times. One important element for healthy ambient air is the avoidance of pollutants in the fit-out and interior design of the house. The construction timber used by SchwörerHaus is produced in the in-house sawmill and employed with no chemical timber preservatives. Examples of healthy living construction and fit-out materials include the “Living Board” timber-based boards and the parquet flooring. Furthermore, all materials that are relevant to the indoor ambient air are tested for pollutants. The healthy ambient air quality is confirmed by multiple ambient air measurements in accordance with scientific criteria from the Sentinel Haus Institute in Freiburg in cooperation with TÜV Rheinland. So-called decay curves for certain substances were determined over several weeks here.

SchwörerHaus: Building envelope in wooden panel design, KfW efficiency house 55 with multilayer wall structure and smallest possible wall thickness, U-value 0.151 W/(m²K), roof U-value 0.146 W/(m²K), external wall soundproofing value 58 dB. In addition, a system for controlled ventilation and extraction with heat recovery (min. 80%) is used, which has been produced by Schwörer in its own factory for many decades under the name heat recovery technology (WGT).

Sto: Façade paint StoColor Dryonic was used as a top coat on the StoTherm Classic rendered façade insulation system. The bionic façade paint specifically repels precipitation such as rain or mist and dew and ensures fast-drying and thus clean façades – even without anti-algae, antifungal film protection.

Braas: Tegalit roof tiles in combination with in-roof photovoltaic system Braas PV Indax. Integration of the modules instead of roofing creates a straight, harmonious roof appearance; special back-ventilation of the modules ensures high power outputs from the PV system.

Velux: VELUX INTEGRA skylights, remote controlled and solar powered, including integrated awnings for heat protection and external roller shutters for obscuration – the special thing about the fit-out with electrochromic glazing. This complete Velux system is virtually energy-independent: all skylights have their own small solar cells and motors, which work independently of one another and the power network of the house – so-called group switching can be programmed at any time via the VELUX INTEGRA® control pad. CONVEX glass skylights were used in the area of the car port – as the name suggests, the surface has a concave curve – which is why the rainwater can run off easily, and they stand out for their attractively shaped design.

Vaillant: flexoTHERM brine-operated air-water heat pump in combination with underfloor heating from Schwörer already installed in the factory. The highlight: eloPACK battery storage serves as an energy manager for the PV electricity generated, to increase energy consumption in the building to up to 85%. Depending on the electricity and heat demand in the building, the battery storage regulates the electricity flow, taking into account the current weather data and a 3-day weather forecast as well as user behaviour.

Somfy: Tahoma Switch io Smart Home System with iPad control for roller shutters, exterior blinds and skylights. The latest sensor technology is used, such as sun sensors, wind sensors and temperature sensors, as well as security sensors such as smoke alarms, opening sensors (door and window surveillance) and external movement sensors. Integration of the electrochromic glazing is in the planning.
